The seller gave me this information regarding the usage: I've talked to several old AA employees locally in the past who told me there were badges for black employees that were different than the ones for the white employees and maybe this was that badge. More information needed.

Started as American Airways and name changed to American Airlines in 1934. American Airways was formed through a consolidation of several mergers including Colonial Airlines, Universal Aviation, Southern Air Transport and Emery Riddle. Most of these airlines were itself formed through other mergers.
