Started as a crop duster in 1924. Took name of Delta Air Service in 1928 and started passenger service in 1929. Later became Delta Air Corporation and finally Delta Air Lines. Merged with Chicago & Southern in 1953 and renamed airline Delta Chicago & Southern for two years. In 1972, merged with Northeast Airlines. Acquired Western Airlines in 1987. In 2008, merged with Northwest Airlines.
