Started as Northwest Airways and name changed to Northwest Airlines in 1934. Absorbed Republic Airlines in 1985. The Delta/Northwest merger was approved on Oct. 29, 2008 and in Jan.2010, Delta completed the merge of the reservation systems and discontinued using the Northwest name for flights.
