Founded as STOL Air, a San Rafael, CA based airline, and name changed in 1979 to WestAir Commuter and at the same time, acquired Golden Eagle Airlines. Became United Express in
1986 and relocated the company to San Francisco and then within a year, to Los Angeles. The parent company, WestCom Holidings relocated to Fresno, CA and had two additional divisions one of which was Pasco based NPA which merged with WestAir in 1990. Mesa Air acquired WestAir in 1992. Because of financial problems, United told Mesa that they were not going to continue their contract which expired in 1998. WestAir's last operation was May 31, 1998. Skywest took over United Express operations.
