Western Air Lines Pilot Hat Badge 5th Issue. There are two varieties of
this issue. The earlier one is darker in tone and usually hallmarked STERLING and the second is lighter in tone.

Western Air Express bought Pacific Marine Airways in 1928. For a few
months in 1934, the name of General Airlines was used. Bought National Parks
Airline in 1937. Airline renamed to Western Airlines in 1941. Bought Inland
Airlines in 1943. Merged with Pacific Northern Airlines in 1967. Merged with
Delta Airlines in 1986.
